According to the U.S Census Bureau, the projected population of senior citizens from 2007 to 2050 is predicted to increase by 50.6 million people. At the same time, annual increases in the senior population cause Medicare and its coverage to change in order to meet the ever changing demands. These changes can cause a lot of questions and confusion for today’s older adults. In fact, research from the National Association of Insurance Commissioners has shown that many baby boomers are confused about their post-retirement health insurance options, including Medicare eligibility, and a survey from Kaiser Family Foundation found that more than 61% of seniors say that they don’t really understand Medicare drug benefits.
The Society of Certified Senior Advisors (SCSA), as a part of an ongoing continual educational program, has created a presentation to help explain Medicare insurance and its upcoming 2010 changes. The presentation answers questions such as, “Can I enroll in Medicare whenever I want?” “Will Medicare insurance cover my long-term care?” and “How do these continual Medicare changes affect me?” Highlights include:
- 2010 Medicare changes to premiums, deductibles, and co-payments.
- How to address common misconceptions about Medicare insurance and its coverage.
- Differences among Medicare A, Medicare B, Medicare C, and Medicare part D.
- The differences between open enrollment, annual enrollment, and special enrollment.
The presentation also includes some powerful aides such as, a useful presenter’s script for the Certified Senior Advisor and a variety of handouts to better understand the information presented. Some of the handouts include:
- Medicare Enrollment Coverage Costs Overview
- Medicare parts A through D Summary
- Original Medicare insurance vs. Medicare Advantage- How to Choose
SCSA, in order to help clarify these concerns, provides monthly webinars, handouts, guides and more to their Certified Senior Advisors as part of an ongoing effort to better communicate with and understand the needs of senior citizens today.
ABOUT SCSA. SCSA was established in 1997 to enhance education and standards among professionals working with senior citizens. SCSA’s mission is to educate professionals to work more effectively with their senior clients. We believe that the right kind of planning, recommendations and referrals can make aging a state to be savored instead of a fate to fear. For those who work with seniors, this means understanding the key health, social and financial factors that are important to seniors—and how these factors work together. CSAs are able to integrate this into their professional practices, no matter what field they’re in. They’ve learned how incredibly gratifying it is to help seniors achieve their goals, and the seniors they’ve worked with have learned how important it is to work with someone who truly understands their age-related circumstances.
